Why I Started the Rhode Island Living Facebook Community

by Lissette Bolano

On October 15th, I officially launched the Rhode Island Living Facebook Group  not as a real estate space, not as a sales platform, but as a community hub.

I wanted to create a place where we could all celebrate what makes Rhode Island… Rhode Island. The charm, the creativity, the small-town energy with big personality. A space where locals can share, connect, discover, and support one another.

It’s About Showcasing the Best of RI

This group is my way of helping bring attention to the amazing things happening in our state  small businesses, local events, neighborhood gems, and the people behind them.

There’s so much happening here, but unless you’re super dialed in, it’s easy to miss out. I wanted to change that.

Here’s the vision:

  • Weekly posts about events, local happenings, and hidden gems

  • Spotlights on small businesses worth checking out

  • Opportunities for local collaborations and giveaways

  • A space for residents (new or lifelong) to ask questions, share tips, and feel part of something

Whether it’s a pop-up happening in Pawtucket, a new café opening in Wakefield, or a handmade candle business in Bristol  I want this group to help amplify local voices and bring more eyes to what makes Rhode Island awesome.

Who the Group Is For

Everyone.

Whether you’ve lived here your whole life, just moved here last month, or you’re simply obsessed with this little state  you’re welcome.

The group is for:

  • Locals who want to stay in the know

  • Small business owners looking to connect and grow

  • People moving to Rhode Island or curious about life here

  • Anyone who loves community, connection, and supporting local

It’s not about spammy self-promotion or endless ads. It’s about real recommendations, real people, and real support.

How It Ties Into What I Do (and Doesn’t)

I’m a Realtor, yes. But this group isn’t a funnel.
You won’t see me pitching homes every other post  that’s not the point.

That said, if someone asks for a local real estate recommendation or resource, I’ll absolutely raise my hand. And when it makes sense, I may drop in something useful like a seasonal Rhode Island guides, neighborhood comparison, or a local roundup blog. But always at the right time and with the right intent.

My goal is to add value first  and trust that the right connections will follow naturally.

What I Hope It Becomes

Right now, the group is small  44 people and counting. But every community starts somewhere.

My hope is that it becomes a place where:

  • A small business gets discovered and gains new customers

  • A local event gets more buzz because someone shared it here

  • Two people meet in the comments and collaborate on something amazing

  • Someone moving to RI feels just a little more at home because of this space

That’s the stuff I want to see. That’s what I believe in.

Want to Join?

If you love Rhode Island  or just want to stay connected to what’s happening here  I’d love for you to join the group, invite a friend, and be part of building something local, positive, and collaborative.

You can find the group here → Rhode Island Living

Come share what you love about RI. A new favorite restaurant, a weekend event, a cool shop you stumbled on, or a local business doing something great. Let’s grow it together. Thanks for being here 💛
